Mama Crab Wong Ley Kun suggests this lovely group photo.
After an enthusiastic classroom session earlier, we headed out to Pasir Ris Mangrove Boardwalk to practise with real visitors. We saw an otter, a shore pit-viper, lots of birds, mudskippers, crabs, fishes and more!

Otters at Chek Jawa!

My first time spotting otters during a Naked Hermit Crab walk at the Chek Jawa boardwalk!
Smooth-coated otters (Lutrogale perspicillata)
They are quite shy and stayed away from the people. The visitors also spotted a mangrove whipray! This is why I prefer to visit Chek Jawa at a high tide. We won't enjoy such sightings at low tide.

Exploring Berlayar Creek to Marina at Keppel Bay

An awesome trip this morning to explore shores just steps from an MRT station! I saw an otter!
Berlayar Creek Boardwalk
Next to Labrador MRT station is the Berlayar Creek boardwalk that takes us through mangroves growing there. Strolling along, we get glorious views of Sentosa. Thanks to Jessica and Thong Meng, we got a special look at the amazing corals that have settled at Marina at Keppel Bay.

This trip is part of Singapore Celebrates our Shores 2018 for International Year of the Reef (IYOR). Students from the Raffles Ecological Literacy Programme are looking to write a children's book about our shores. IYOR interns Yue Chin and Frances also helped out at the walk.

Doggy welcome to Pulau Ubin
We traditionally get a low turnout of visitors in September due probaby to the exams. But the guides love being at Chek Jawa and we had a nice long slow walk as everyone took turns sharing stories with a small group of very patient visitors.

Guiding at Pulau Semakau with lots of sea stars!

Yesterday, I had a great time guiding at Pulau Semakau! This is the first time I'm guiding since I started the guiding programme on the island in 2005!
We had such a great time with enthusiastic and friendly visitors who spot all kinds of interesting marine life. We know we shouldn't take the sea stars out of the water, so we take our group photo with them this way!
