I had a great walk with the Naked Hermit Crabs on a new route at Pasir Ris mangroves, park and beach. We saw owls, a snake and lots more.
Thanks to Evan for working out the new route as part of the Pasir Ris mangrove boardwalk is closed.

It's fun and easy to guide on Singapore shores!
I had lots of fun with experienced guides and nature lovers at the Lepak in SG workshop this weekend.
After an enthusiastic classroom session earlier, we headed out to Pasir Ris Mangrove Boardwalk to practise with real visitors. We saw an otter, a shore pit-viper, lots of birds, mudskippers, crabs, fishes and more!

Otters at Chek Jawa!
My first time spotting otters during a Naked Hermit Crab walk at the Chek Jawa boardwalk!
They are quite shy and stayed away from the people. The visitors also spotted a mangrove whipray! This is why I prefer to visit Chek Jawa at a high tide. We won't enjoy such sightings at low tide.

Exploring Berlayar Creek to Marina at Keppel Bay
An awesome trip this morning to explore shores just steps from an MRT station! I saw an otter!
Next to Labrador MRT station is the Berlayar Creek boardwalk that takes us through mangroves growing there. Strolling along, we get glorious views of Sentosa. Thanks to Jessica and Thong Meng, we got a special look at the amazing corals that have settled at Marina at Keppel Bay.
This trip is part of Singapore Celebrates our Shores 2018 for International Year of the Reef (IYOR). Students from the Raffles Ecological Literacy Programme are looking to write a children's book about our shores. IYOR interns Yue Chin and Frances also helped out at the walk.

Sharing Chek Jawa and Ubin with Youth Corps Singapore
I had a wild time with enthusiastic youths at Chek Jawa for the YCS Volunteer Engagement: Understanding Ubin's Natural Heritage.
I am inspired by their energy and their questions made me think more deeply. Thanks to Ng Jing Rou for organising the trip and letting me be a part of it.

Fun in the rain with R.U.M.
Despite the wet and wild weather, I had a great time at the free monthly Ubin mangrove walk with the Restore Ubin Mangroves (R.U.M.) Initiative!
Thanks to the hardcore volunteers and the most enthusiastic visitors we have had! The walk was to celebrate World Wildlife Day and thanks to many sharp eyes and ears, we spotted many of the iconic mangrove and Ubin wildlife on our walk!

First Naked walk at Chek Jawa in 2017
I had a lovely day out for the first free monthly guided walk at Chek Jawa for 2017 by the Naked Hermit Crabs.
It's great to visit Chek Jawa at high tide! Otters were spotted from the Jejawi tower! Alas, I saw a large barge and workboat parked on Chek Jawa and small boats speeding through Chek Jawa waters.

Celebrating World Wetlands Day at Pulau Ubin with RUM
I had a great time with fabulous people who joined the free monthly mangrove walk! Lively students from the College of Alice and Peter Tan spelled out R.U.M. Cool!
World Wetlands Day on 2 Feb celebrates wetlands such as mangroves. We grabbed this opportunity to share about the awesome mangroves at Pulau Ubin and the work of the Restore Ubin Mangroves (R.U.M.) Initiative there.

Chek Jawa boardwalk slowly
I had a great time yesterday at Pulau Ubin helping out with the Naked Hermit Crabs' free monthly tour of the Chek Jawa boardwalk.
We traditionally get a low turnout of visitors in September due probaby to the exams. But the guides love being at Chek Jawa and we had a nice long slow walk as everyone took turns sharing stories with a small group of very patient visitors.

Guiding at Pulau Semakau with lots of sea stars!
Yesterday, I had a great time guiding at Pulau Semakau! This is the first time I'm guiding since I started the guiding programme on the island in 2005!
We had such a great time with enthusiastic and friendly visitors who spot all kinds of interesting marine life. We know we shouldn't take the sea stars out of the water, so we take our group photo with them this way!
