Such soft materials come from local excavation, tunnelling and dredging works. JTC believes that if such materials can be used in land reclamation, it will reduce Singapore's reliance on costly sand imports; it will also get rid of the problems associated with disposing of these soft materials.
This is one of the pilot projects in the $450 million government fund launched today to encourage collaboration between government agencies and the private sector in coming up with solutions for long-term needs.
