A very long driftnet was laid on the seagrass meadows of Pulau Semakau today.
It is possibly as long as 500m!

Mollusc marvels on Changi, and more signs of dugong?
My first time seeing this delightful little snail! It belongs to the Family Cassidae which are merciless predators of sea urchins and sand dollars. One way this snail gets at its prey is to squirts neurotoxic saliva to paralyse the spines. Then the snail sticks its snout through the prey's unprotected anus to eat it. Eeks.
This is the Japanese bonnet snail (Semicassis bisulcatum) which has been seen before on Cyrene Reef by others on the team. I love the way the siphon stick out on the side of the shell so it can snorkel in the sand.
We saw lots of other fascinating molluscs on Changi too!

Pregnant papas on Changi, with signs of dugong?
A very pregnant papa seahorse was among the first things I saw when I arrived at 5am on Changi.
This shore is teeming with seahorses, fishes and echinoderms! I haven't been here since July 2010!

Beting Bronok is alive!
This beautiful nudibranch is quite commonly seen on Beting Bronok. This pair looked like they were about to make new nudibranchs.
I saw these delightful creatures during our annual visit to Beting Bronok, a submerged reef on our Northern shore

Helpful crab at Terumbu Pempang Tengah
A crab has found a heart urchin! I'm really bad at spotting animals, so it's great to get help from others! But it was quite unexpected to get help from a crab!
I was out at 4am this morning on Terumbu Pempang Tengah, a submerged reef off Pulau Hantu.

Wild facts updates for May 11: some awesome fishes!
I still see creatures for the first time, even though I've been visiting our shores regularly for more than 10 years! Our shores are so amazing!
The highlight for me was this Spotted eagle ray (Aetobatus narinari) that I saw on oil-slicked Tanah Merah! It is the most beautiful fish I've seen!

Join as a day participant in the Sea Anemone Workshop (15-21 Jun)
A chance for ordinary people to learn about our fascinating sea anemones! These lovely animals are not well studied, thus we know so little about them.
This is about to change! In June, Dr Daphne Fautin, the world authority on sea anemones, will be in Singapore to conduct a workshop on sea anemones with the Tropical Marine Science Institute. Ordinary people who are interested can join as day participants!
