Jurong reclamation near Cyrene Reef begins

More reclamation and dredging will happen near Cyrene until Jan 2012 as part of the plan to reclaim 18 hectares off Ayer Merbau, starting with some 7-8 ha in the south and another 5 ha in the north of the area.
The area affected doesn't look too alarming in the recent Port Marine Notice, until we take a wider look...

Cyrene (indicated in yellow) is already not far from the massive reclamation site (in red) for the new Pasir Panjang Container Terminal, which has been going on for years.

With the start of 24/7 reclamation and dredging at Ayer Merbau on Jurong Island, Cyrene will be surrounded on three sides by massive coastal works for many months to come. More about the reclamation at Jurong Island.

Reclamation at Ayer Merbau, Jurong Island

With effect from 16 Jul 11 to 15 Jan 12. 24 hours daily including Sundays and Public Holidays. Off Ayer Merbau (see attached chartlet):


The work will entail the removal of existing rocks, dredging and reclamation works in the working area. Shore protection works will be carried out by crane barges and dredger. Soil investigation works will also be carried out in the working area.
