I saw lots of Fire anemones today among the seagrasses of Beting Bemban Besar!
One of our largest submerged reefs, it was great to see fresh green seagrasses in the middle of Triple B, as we affectionately call it. It was also a relief to that there was not much bleaching seen on the reefs here.

Terumbu Bemban: corals are well, seagrasses look good
A small team checked out this small but rich reef flat. Thanks to Su and Zhi Ting for their support of the trip!
I was relieved to see that most of the corals were doing well. And happy to see clumps of rather long Tape seagrass and sprinkles of Spoon seagrass on the reef flat. Kelvin found a Burrowing giant clam!

Some bleaching at Pulau Semakau (North)
We arrive before dawn on this corner of Pulau Semakau near Pulau Hantu and Pulau Bukom. It has a rich reefy edge.
I saw lots of corals of all kinds. The rest of the team spotted a Giant clam, and a special anemone too! Alas, there were some corals that were bleaching and many that looked stressed or had portions that were pale. The seagrasses have not made a recovery.

Checking up on the reefs at Cyrene
Although it lies in the middle of an industrial triangle and major shipping lanes, Cyrene has some of Singapore's best shores.
Today, I surveyed the reefier edge of Cyrene that is closer to Jurong Island. There are still some corals there and most seemed alright. Only a few were bleaching. I saw dugong feeding trails!

Special Changi shore still alive
We return to a narrow Changi shore and find it's still doing well. There were a lot of Pink warty sea cucumbers washed up on the water line on a large portion of the shore. I have no idea why this is so.
This shore was hit by the Jan 2017 oil spill and scoured by loose stakes rolling on the shore. It's good to see that things are improving here.
