8 May (Sat): Talks at Sungei Buloh for World Migratory Bird Day

In line with International Year of Biodiversity the theme for World Migratory Bird Day in 2010 is "Save migratory birds in crisis – every species counts!" and focuses on Globally Threatened Migratory Birds.

"City of Gonads" Jellyfish Discovered

Unique among jellyfishes, a newly described jellyfish has its gonads on the outside, like "skyscrapers in a downtown business district"

Gonads=sexual organs. What good are external gonads to a jellyfish? "I've thought about this for so long—I have no idea," said Lisa-Ann Gershwin who made the discovery. "There may be some functional reason, but I can't see what it is."

Dawn sees us once again, out at sea. We're heading for Terumbu Raya, a submerged reef off Pulau Semaku, towing the trusty dinghy behind us for our amphibious landing.
