Saving mangroves at Pulau Tekong continues!

Efforts to save more than 1,000 mangrove trees on Pulau Tekong's north-eastern coastline continue! These trees are at risk from serious erosion due to boat traffic.

This never-before-attempted approach to coastal protection and restoration is being tried out by NParks to save possibly the last largest pristine stretch of mangroves in Singapore. It's good to hear that the efforts are on-going in a recent MPA Port Marine Notice. More about this effort.


Coastal Protection and Restoration of Mangrove Biodiversity at Pulau Tekong
from Port Marine Notice No. 168 of 2010 dated 31 Dec 2010
This is a revision of Port Marine Notice No. 120 of 2010. The working period has been revised.

With effect from 04 Jan 11 to 03 July 2011. 24 hours daily including Sundays and Public Holidays. At Pulau Tekong (see attached chartlet - below):
Coastal protection and restoration of mangrove biodiversity works will entail installation of wooden piles, filling of existing berm with biodegradable sacks and shoreline stabilisation using stones.

The protection and restoration works will be carried out by work barges “GM29” and “Oung 3”. The safety boat will be in attendance throughout the duration of the construction works to warn other craft of the works in the vicinity.
