New record of a crab in a pitcher plant

This freshwater crab was observed inside a pitcher plant!
While there have been observations of Geosesarma malayanum making forays into the narrow-lidded pitcher plant (Nepenthes ampullaria), this is the first record of Geosesarma perracae inside a pitcher plant.

Geosesarma perracae is found in swampy lowlands usually near freshwater.

More about this on the Nature in Singapore website: First record in Singapore of a nepenthiphilous crab, Geosesarma perracae (Crustacea: Decapoda: Sesarmidae). H. H. Tan and P. K. L. Ng. Pp. 201-205. [PDF, 793 KB]
