Get plushie Snapping shrimps and Shrimp gobies!

This curious partnership between a little fish and little shrimp can be seen on Singapore's shores!

 I've made lots and lots of plushie partners to give to volunteers at the upcoming Celebrating Singapore Shores on 16 Mar (Sat) at Berlayar Creek. To be a volunteer, simply join the FREE workshop on guiding on 9 Mar (Sat), and see you at Berlayar Creek!

Here's more about Singapore's amazing snapping shrimps and shrimp gobies!

The shrimp goby lives in the same burrow with a snapping shrimp. A snapping shrimp has one of its pincers greatly enlarged. This pincer may even be as long as its entire body! The enlarged pincer can produce a very loud sound. The blast stuns prey like tiny fish and cracks the shells of small clams. It is also used to warn off predators and intimidate rival snapping shrimps.

With keener eyesight, the goby keeps a look-out while the shrimp busily digs out and maintains their shared home.

The shrimp is literally constantly in touch with the goby with at least one of its antennae always on the goby.

When the goby darts into the burrow, the shrimp is right behind it!

Always wanted to be a nature guide? Want to be a better nature guide? This workshop is just for you! First timers and existing nature guides are welcomed. Find out what makes a good nature guide (psst, not knowledge, as most people think!).

Then test your newfound approach and guide alongside the volunteers of the Naked Hermit Crabs for an actual tour of the Berlayar Creek mangrove boardwalk - with real participants. Experienced volunteers will demonstrate and help you guide during this walk.

You then have a chance to give back to the Naked Hermit Crabs by being a station guide for the "Celebrating Singapore Shores!" on 16 March (Sat) at the same Berlayar Creek Boardwalk. More details will be provided during the workshop.
