Kusu pilgrimage season: 27 Sep to 26 Oct 2011

Traditionally happening on the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, 100,000 devotees and visitors are expected to visit tiny Kusu Island for the annual pilgrimage season.It is said that 80% of the pilgrims are women. Many come to pray for good husbands, healthy babies and obedient children.

Access to Marina South Pier during Kusu Pilgrimage Season (27 Sep to 26 Oct 2011)

Applicable to: The Shipping Community getting to Marina South Pier

1 Every year during the ninth lunar month, tens of thousands of devotees make their way to Marina South Pier to take the ferries to Kusu Island for their annual Kusu Pilgrimage. This year’s Kusu Pilgrimage period is from 27 Sep to 26 Oct 2011.

2 In view of the expected congestion and limited parking space at Marina South Pier, the shipping community is encouraged to take the public transport and not to drive to Marina South Pier. Please take note of the following:

Road Closure (On Weekends and Public Holidays)

3 Marina Coastal Drive, between Marina Mall and Marina South Pier, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6.00am to 5.00pm on weekends and public holidays during the Kusu Pilgrimage period from 27 Sep to 26 Oct. Only authorised vehicles with parking labels will be allowed to enter and park at Marina South Pier.

4 During the road closure period, motorists could park at the following car parks (please refer to the map in Appendix 1) and make use of the free shuttle service from Bestway Building Car Park to Marina South Pier:
i) Bestway Building Car Park (EPS parking)
ii) Prince Edward Link URA Car Park (coupon parking)

Free Shuttle Service

5 A free shuttle service will run between the Bestway Building Car Park and Marina South Pier from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm on weekends and public holidays during the Kusu Pilgrimage period. The frequency of the shuttle service is approximately every 15 minutes.

Authorised Access

6 Motorists who need to drive to Marina South Pier during the road closure period can apply for authorised access to Marina South Pier. The MPA will consider such requests on a case-by-case basis.

7 The application should reach MPA at least one working day in advance. Please include the following information in the application:

8 Successful applicants will receive a letter with an enclosed car label, which must be displayed on the vehicle’s wind screen for access to Marina South Pier.
